The Human Design New Year—Gate 61

We are in the second week of January and many of us are already exhausted by the charged energy of the first ten days of the year. Remember that in the northern hemisphere, the natural world is still resting, still integrating underneath the winter ground.

Today the sun moved into Gate 61, the gate of Mystery. This individuated gate in the head center filters inspiration through the pressure to know by absolute recognition. It is not focused on recalling patterns of the past or using logic to predict the future, but to dive into the vastness of the unknown until a universal principle is recognized. There is the desire and the pressure here to know the unknowable. In detriment, this can cause us to feel overwhelmed by uncertainty and become lost in delusion. But if we allow ourselves to get quiet and to enjoy our musings as what they are, we may be surprised by the truths we discover about ourselves.

In the IChing, Hexagram 61—Inner Truth refers to the “treasure chest of inner truth” that each one of us is born with as well as the truth within situations. It reminds us that decisions made on purely the external appearance of people or situations will only lead to chaos or conflict later down the road. We must find within ourselves a stillness, like a reflective lake, where the truth can be recognized by our inner senses. The truth within situations is a little more difficult because it is shaped by all parties involved and past elements that are still being acted out. It requires that we listen with our commonsense and create the context, space, and time for transformation within and without.

This gate certainly puts on the pressure to know, but is best expressed without expectation. Perhaps there are things we will never know, and that can be okay as well.
